Most of my research focuses on how self-evaluations are maintained and how they are related to interpersonal processes. I have become particularly interested in how people typically perceive others’ evaluations (perceived esteem) and the degree to which many phenomena that are associated with self-esteem can be explained by these social evaluations. I also conduct research on how to effectively communicate expectations between students and college instructors and how such communication affects classroom outcomes and how this can inform basic research in industrial/organizational psychology on the psychological contract between employers and employees.
I currently teach and do research in the amazing Psychology Department of Bradley University. My teaching interests include social psychology, research methods, personality psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, statistics, and social psychology.
I received a B.A. degree in speech communication from California State University, Fresno, and a B.S. in psychology from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. I completed an M.A. (1997) and a Ph.D. (2002) in Social Psychology at Ohio State University. After a year as a Visiting Professor at Kalamazoo College, I taught at Willamette University for 5 years before moving to Bradley.
